Anionic polymerisation of caprolactam is greatly affected by moisture. To combat this, Viva Nylons use caprolactam with water content below 100 ppm. Moisture-free liquid caprolactam is delivered and stored in thermally insulated heated containers, held under a protective nitrogen blanket. Our caprolactam melt storage facility allows real-time access to preheated raw material, ensuring uninterrupted continual production of cast nylon shapes.
Viva Nylons employ multiple active chemical formulations to enable efficient polymerisation throughout our different casting processes. All formulations are designed to minimise internal stress and ensure optimum mechanical characteristics. The additives we employ are designed to impart cast nylon with unique material properties in terms of mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, lubricity, heat / thermal aging stability, electrical conductivity and colour.
