We undertake physical testing on our standard stock-shapes and for custom specific components and applications:

Characterisation (in-house)

In-house material identification is performed for clients (in component or semi-finished form) including:

  • Basic material characteristics, such as hardness, are tested in-process and after completion to ensure material quality.
  • Melt-point and crystallinity tests are performed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
  • Material density tests are performed using an electronic balance

Characterisation (external):

Viva Nylons employ external consultants for sensitive testing, characterisation and analysis including:

Mechanical Tests

  • Density
  • Tensile strength and modulus
  • Flexural strength and modulus
  • Compressive strength
  • Izod or Charpy impact
  • Tensile impact
  • Falling weight impact

Thermal Analysis/Characterisation

  • Heat distortion temperature (HDT)
  • Crystalline melting point / Tg
  • Thermal expansion coefficient

Electrical

  • Volume/surface receptivity
  • Tracking index
  • Dielectric strength

Long term polymer durability testing

  • Fatigue testing
  • Tensile creep
  • Compressive creep
  • Thermally accelerated ageing & testing
  • Tribological properties (abrasive Wear and abrasion testing)
